“Cherry Mobile has done it again,” I told myself while watching Lonson Alejandrino announce the Cosmic Series of Cherry Mobile. The Cosmos Series feature specifications at par with international standards. If Samsung has a Galaxy line, then the Philippines’ very own mobile phone company, Cherry Mobile, has Cosmos.
According to CEO of Cherry Mobile, Maynard Ngu:
” We are bringing our consumers the technologies used by top international brands at a price within reach. And this is exactly in line with our goal as a company of valuing Filipino lifestyle.”
The Cosmos series is comprised of four smartphones that come in sleek and sexy designs: the Cosmos X, X2, S and Z. Prices of these devices range from less than 10,000 to 11,990.
All these devices are powered by Mediatek MT6589 chipset. The said chipset is not just the world’s first commercialized quad-core SoC, but also the world’s first HSPA+ smartphone patform supporting Dual-SIM, Dual-Active Functionality. Further, according the Finbarr Moynihan, Mediatek’s General Manager of International Sales & Marketing, “MT6589’s technical features make it a universal platform that delivers premium multimedia capabilities with extremely low power consumption for an outstanding user experience.”
Cherry Mobile’s CEO, Mr.Ngu, had the pleasure of unveling the Cosmos line by opening the demo area, which had eight phones where attendees were given the exclusive chance of trying the devices even before the line is released to the market.
One of the brand ambassadors of Cherry Mobile, Anne Curtis, also graced the event. As usual, the dyosa looked really liked one during the event. Anne was stunning in an elegant white gown as she presented the four phones together with four of Cherry’s big bosses, Ms.Michelle Ngu (VP for Operations), Ms. Fe Varilla (General Manager), Ms.Poch Zenarosa (Marketing Head), and Mr.Lonson Alejandrino (Product Manager for Smartphones).
Celebrating her 2nd year as ambassador for Cherry Mobile, Anne expressed her gratitude and admiration to the company. She later announced that the Cosmos series will have a one-of-a-kind TVC, which is slated to be aired sometime in September. You will probably remember that she was last seen at Anne-droidify campaign last 2012.
Cosmos X (Cosmos X and Cosmos X2)
Priced at PhP9,999 and PhP11,699 respectively, the Cosmos X and Cosmos X2 are the first devices that are locally distributed by a Filipino owned-company that sport Super AMOLED HD displays with high contrast ratio. This means that colors are more saturated, more vibrant and more alive.
Both devices are packed with Mediatek 1.2 GHz Quad-Core Processor; 1 GB RAM; whopping 18mp (rear) plus 5mp (front) BSI camera; and are expandable up to 32gb. The Cosmos X2 is at the advantage as it has more Internal memory – 16gb – compared to the Cosmos, which only has 4gb; quite a larger screen and has more multi-touch point.
Both devices will be available in 2-3 weeks.
Cosmos S
The Cosmos S has a gorgeous 5″ HD-IPS display and powered with a Mediatek 1.5Ghz Quad-core Processor. Like the Cosmos X line, this device also has an 18mp (rear) and 8mp (front) BSI cameras. Take note that both camera are BSI so you should haven’t any problems when taking selfies and other subjects in low-light environment.
This device has an internal memory of 16gb and 1gb RAM. Unfortunately, you cannot expand the memory of this device; but with 16gb (probably with usable memory of 10-12gb), you won’t have any problems putting in media content.
We were told that Cosmos S has unique features similar to Samsung’s Smart Stay. It also has other neat features like Smart Call; and something similar to Lumia’s Smart Cam, which allows you to erase unwanted subjects (“photobombers”) on a photo you just took.
The Cosmos S’ price is PhP10,999 and will become available in August.
Cosmos Z
Cosmos Z is the flagship device of the Cosmos Series. It’s is also powered with a Mediatek 1.5Ghz Quad-core Processor. We heard from a reliable source that this has a SGX544 GPU. Having said this, it’s then safe to assume that both S and Z carry the same processor – MT6589T Processor.
The Z only has an internal memory of 8gb and 1gb RAM. We need to further check if the memory is expandable, because upon checking the innards, we cannot find a microSD slot.
The Cosmos Z will be available in August for PhP11,999.
