I just received a review unit of the Idol Mini and I can say that I am impressed with the simplicity of it’s design. It is simple yet elegant.

A lot of phones are being released with the word ‘mini’ as the smaller version of the regular sized phones, and it seems that Alcatel has joined the band wagon.

Design and Specifications

The Idol Mini is a 4.3 inch handset with the resolution of of 480×652 pixels. The screen is just right for me. I am used large screen phablets using both of my hands to text or email. But with idol Mini, i only need one hand for all of its operation. It fits perfectly in my pocket. It is slim and light to carry; and has a simple design on the front and an elegant metal look at the back. I can comfortably hold it with my hands because of its non-slippery design. This is probably the slimmest and sexiest medium range smartphones in the market.

The Idol Mini is a dual sim device which let’s you use two sim cards with dual standby. With the slim design of the idol mini, it seems that you have nothing in your pocket.

There are two version of this phone but I think only the dual SIM version is released here in the Philippines. The Single SIM Version has the internal memory of 4GB but it is expandable of to 32 GB. The Dual SIM version has 8GB  memory, however, no option of expanding its memory. Both version run on 512 RAM and has a 1700 mAh battery.

I am quite excited with this product. Although it is not as fast as the high end mobile phones in the market right now, it still it hits two important factors in choosing a mobile phone – design and affordability. I think this will surely catch the eyes of a lot of people especially this Christmas season.

We will take this device into a good spin and we will post the review as soon as we are able to test this little idol to it’s limits.
