iPhone 5’s battery sucks! My Cherry Mobile Cosmos X‘s battery barely lasts a day with 3G on! As we all live in a time when we use our phones more than our pens, having to hear the unapologetic low-batt tune can sometimes ruin our day. Well, this isn’t going to be too much a pressure if you have a powerbank that can charge your phone for 3 times. Ladies and gentlemen, here’s my review of the Kingmax 8,000 mAh external battery.

Unboxing Photos

Build

This powerbank is obviously big, but it can definitely fit your pocket. If you only own 1 phone, you wouldn’t mind putting this in your other side pocket. (The question – does it heat up too much – will be answered later.) It may be as big as another phone, but you’ve got to understand that its quite-bulky build is caused by the 8,000 mAh external battery pack inside its durable and lightweight aluminium alloy fine casing.

The powerbank looks really good. It’s something that you won’t mind carrying with your phone. If there’s an aspect of its design that failed to impress me, that would be the 4LED power indicators. They should have used a dot, rather than a diamond indicator-design.

It may be made of metal, but it does not heat up to much. Thus, you don’t need to worry if you think that it could burn your legs if you put it on your side pocket while charging a phone. I seldom do the latter though as I usually just put the powerbank in my bag, and simultaneously charge my devices on the go.

Function

Yes, you can charge more than 2 devices simultaneously with this powerbank. This is definitely a bonus if you own 2 phones with “sucky” batteries. This gives more confidence and security if you worry on losing your phones’ juice during calamities.

During my tests, my fully charged Kingmax powerbank juiced up the following devices to 100% per cycle:

  • iPhone 5 – 3 times
  • Cherry Mobile Cosmos X – 3 times
  • Nexus 7 (2013) – 2 times
  • O+ 8.16 – 2 times
  • iPad Mini – 1.5 times

Fully charging the powerbank takes a while though. In my experience, I was able to charge it to 100% after 8 hours. This isn’t to much of a burden as this can be done before going to bed.

Verdict

If you’re mobile and if you don’t usually have an access to power outlets for 12 hours, the Kingmax 8,000mAh powerbank is definitely a great help. It isn’t something that you’d like to use if you’re concerned about mobility and if you don’t want to carry around a slab of battery. If this powerbank isn’t for you, then I suggest that you use Phonesuit Flex.

Priced at PhP1,999, it isn’t exactly the cheapeast powerbanks around. But don’t get me wrong – this device is finely made and it exudes good quality and noteworthy design. Unlike other powerbanks, this one remains to be capable of charging my devices the way it used to be since I got it 2 months ago.
