Last week, I teased you with the limited flagship phone of O+, the O+ Imagine. This time, I would like to show you what I have – the O+ Fab Elite. This phone is set to go head to head with Samsung’s Galaxy Mega 6.3 in terms of size and raw power. But first, let’s see what inside its retail box, then we’ll show you how it fares in the performance department.

Unboxing the O+ Fab Elite

Treated as a limited release of O+, the O+ Fab Elite has lots of goodies inside. Of course, apart from the usual 8gb memory card, O+ also included a windowed flip cover plus an O+ exclusive Senheisser headset. You will probably remember that O+ Imagine also has a free uber-quality headset out of the box.

What are the other stuff inside the box?

O+ Fab Elite is almost looks very similar with Galaxy Mega 6.3, although it is a bit bigger by .2 inches. It isn’t exactly a knockoff design  as some of its details are unique especially its ridged back panel.

As you can see above, the microUSB port and microphone are placed at the bottom part of the phone. The 3.5mm headphone jack is located on top. The sleep/wake button is placed on the right side, while the volume rockers can be seen at its left side.

In terms of camera, the phone has a 13mp BSI (with AF) rear facing and a 5mp BSI front facing camera. Judging from my initial shots (will upload this in a bit), I can confirm that output are not software interpolated.

Going by its size, Fab Elite is not pocket friendly. I personally love its slim and sleek form though. Its ridged back panel, interestingly, does not ruin its premium build. To top it all off, the included windowed flip cover put its “design-likability” a notch higher!

The IPS 6.5″ screen (Full HD – 1920 x 1080) of Fab Elite is one of the best screens I’ve seen. It is indeed big but I thought that it’s perfect for me as I consume/view more media content on my phone than my laptop. (Yes, sometimes, laptops nowadays are turning into conduits for large data transfer.)

Just like the Galaxy Mega 6.3 and the other latest phones from Samsung. the phone can recognize if the windowed flip cover is… well… covering the screen. This triggers a display that fit the window of the cover.

At its core is a Mediatek 6589T 1.5Ghz quad core processor. That’s enough power to let you play your favorite games like NBA 2k14, Asphalt 8 or Real Racing 3. (For those who are hungry for details how this fares in terms of gaming, I will post a definitive media and gaming review of this device soon.) As an additional perspective, this phone has the same processor in O+ Imagine, Cherry Mobile Cosmos S and Cosmos Z, but it’s packed with 2gb RAM.

Just like other phones with MT6589T procs, I fear that its “power” isn’t enough to properly render 1080p media contents. We’ve experienced noticeable lags when we reviewed Cosmos S and Cosmos Z. I have high hopes though that Fab Elite’s performance would be much better.

This phone has a 3,000mAh battery, which should be enough to power up the phone for about 18 hours at moderate usage. We will see if this estimate would hold true in a week or two. Of course, I’ll include it on my full review soon.

We are currently wrapping up our review of O+ Imagine. So far, as both phones have similar innards, I am positive that they might have almost if not entirely similar performance.

O+ Fab Elite is now available for PhP18,995. You may try it out yourself at O+ Kiosks and Stores. Fully working units are available to be tested by walk-in clients.
