It’s been months since I started using the Cherry Mobile Cosmos X as my primary phone.  I am honestly amazed and astounded by its premium features but now, I got the chance to review and experience the top-of-the-line Cherry Mobile Cosmos Z. Let’s see what this phablet can do.

THE BUILD

11

The Cherry Mobile Cosmos Z is carefully designed and meticulously created for the fans of Cherry Mobile. Its overall build, especially its bezel, makes it look like an 18k priced phone. Design-wise, Cosmos Z  may easily be compared to other brands like Samsung and LG. I specifically like its simple pearl white back casing. Overall, the design is plain but you’ll notice the superiority of its quality once you look closer.

Like any other phones, the volume rocker is located at the left side of the handset and the wake up button is at the right side. A micro-USB port is located at the top of the device along with the 3.5 mm headset jack. There is also 3 capacitive buttons located at the bottom of the device. The 18 megapixel posterior camera is placed at the center back of the device along with the speakers. The Cherry Mobile product placement is also located at the back of the device.

DISPLAY

12

Cosmos Z has a beautiful 5-inch 1080p Full HD IPS OGS display with 441 pixel per inch and 1080 x 1920 resolution. This is one of the crowning glories of Cosmos Z and one of the reasons why you should get it. In addition to this, the screen is crisp, sharp and clear in terms of viewing photos or even playing full HD 1080p videos.

PERFORMANCE

Being on top of the Cosmos series, you’ll notice the biggest changes compared to Cosmos X. Like the Cosmos X, the Z also has Mediatek MT6589 with 1.5 Ghz Quad-core processor compared to X’s 1.2 Ghz. It also has a generous 1 GB RAM in which I repeatedly saying, a ‘bitin’ factor for a Quad-core phone like this. I expected its PowerVR SGX 544MP to be able to handle graphics demanding games. Unfortunately, it failed to flawlessly perform when I tried playing Asphalt 8 and Real Boxing. But I was able to play Dead Trigger 2 and Angry Birds Go quite well though.

Here are the benchmarks for your perusal:

The results are expected to be that high because of the performance of quad-core processor. However, this could also indicate the ‘bitin’ factor of the device. Compared to Cosmos X, the Z has 8 gb of memory but also expandable up to 32 gb.

The Cosmos Z has the out-of-the-box Android Jellybean 4.2.1, in which you can see this in almost updated Android devices nowadays. This only proves that the Cherry Mobile has never left the building in terms of modernization of their super affordable products.

CAMERA

The Cosmos Z also has 2 cameras. At the anterior portion has 8 megapixel camera while at the posterior is a whopping 18 megapixel camera along with the LED flash. However, we could clearly notice that the camera app is only interpollated but the images are quite good and respectable. Here are the sample shots to judge its quality.

BATTERY

The battery of the Cosmos Z is 2000 mAh. Being a power user (Facebook, Twitter, games), the battery lasted for one and a half days for me. This is normally okay for a device with similar display.

CONCLUSION

10

For PhP11,999, Cosmos Z is indeed the best among the Cosmos phones of Cherry Mobile. Z lives up to the hype as Cherry Mobile’s current high-caliber phone. Great display, fast processor, a-okay battery life and acceptable price – man, what else can you ask for? Those are the features of a device I am looking for.
