It’s impressively fast and looks astonishingly manly. These things pretty much sum up my first impressions. Don’t get me wrong about the last one – being ‘manly’ isn’t exactly a bad thing! But before I tell you my reasons for saying such, allow me to show you some unboxing photo highlights!

The first true octa-core smartphone offered by a local company looks amazing! It’s light, sexy and got the “curves” to wow. Its design somehow reminds me of the O+ Imagine sans the all-glass enclosure.

The local Z2’s sleep wake button can be found on its right side, while its volume rockers are on its left. The phone has 2 microphones – one can be found beside the 3.5mm headphone jack on top of the device and the other one is located just beside the microUSB port at the bottom.

The 5″ Full HD screen of Z2 is absolutely stunning. It’s in fact one of the clearest and sharpest screens I’ve seen in the local mobile smartphone scene. Below its screen are 3 capacitive buttons. It takes practice to get used to touching the right button correctly because the left and right buttons are a bit too distant from the home button.

[su_pullquote align=”right”]Design-wise, the Cosmos Z2 is unlike other devices that Cherry Mobile released. Cherry has raised its bar in terms of choosing smartphone designs.[/su_pullquote]Atop its screen are the whopping 8mp front-facing camera and sensors. The former can directly compete with the recently announced Starmobile Muse, which the company dubbed as the selfie-phone.

Its 18mp rear facing camera (w/ BSI, AF with LED Flash) can be seen at the back.

The phone has very thin bezels, but I find it very comfortable to hold. If you’ve got big hands, your thumb can reach the edges of the 5″ screen. That’s generally good because this means that you can operate this phone with just one hand despite.

Let’s get into the performance department. Cosmos Z2 is undeniably fast thanks to its true octa-core processor. Couple this with a 2gb RAM and you’re left of with a phone that’s built to let you enjoy your resources-heavy games like Modern Combat 4, Real Racing 3 and Real Boxing. There are just tons of games that I really wish to try on this phone!

Just for comparison, Cosmos Z2 can go head to head with the recently announced, Starmobile Octa. Both got the same true octa core processor but are also different in some areas. I just can’t wait to compare the two once we post our definitive review of Cosmos Z2 and Octa.

Cosmos Z2 is now available for PhP12,999.
