In 2013, Oxford Dictionaries named “selfie” as its international Word of the Year, making it a household term that even five-year-olds use to capture a photo of them. But let me tell you this: even before dual-camera smartphones came to life, “selfie-ing” has already been a common practice during the digital camera era. Remember when you would stretch your arm just to take a picture of you and your friends?

Thanks to Cherry Mobile Selfie, the “selfie” pandemic has become a lot more contagious from little kids to the cool grandparents. Now, we list down the things we love and loathe about this smartphone. Are you ready?

Sleek Look

If there’s one adjective we could use to describe the Selfie phone, it would be sleek. We don’t know about you, but this device is one of Cherry Mobile’s greatest inventions when it comes to its physical beauty. We’re pretty sure that you won’t be able to recognize it as a Cherry Mobile phone with just one look. However, as we studied its total look, we couldn’t help but feel nostalgic as it reminded us of then Sony Ericsson Xperia’s Neo V. The perfectly arched top and bottom is no doubt an eye catcher that we’d love to display in our hands.

Hey, selfie addicts! Don’t underestimate this gadget because it comes with a powerful camera that even those high-end, too-mainstream smartphones (and DLSR cameras) would give a run for their money.

Cherry Mobile Selfie only has a – wait for it – 13MP front camera with flash.

While we like how it is presented on the front, we smirk at the thought of its ginormous, chrome-plated camera at the back. But upon learning that its 13MP rear camera is made with Sony lens and dual LED flash, we take back what we say and enjoy its cameras instead. Great job on this one, Cherry Mobile!

Brighter Than Life

With its 4.7-inch IPS HD display and 1280 by 720 resolution, you’d definitely want to scan photos, watch your favorite TV shows and movies, and play games (Clash of Clans, anyone?) more often than you could ever imagine. The rich, brilliant colors make it up for a good viewing. In addition, Selfie is protected with Gorilla Glass 3 that saves your beloved smartphone from the tiniest scratches.

Imagine yourself stuck in the EDSA trafficmageddon, you can just take out your Selfie smartphone and enjoy the pictures and videos saved in your device. You’re lucky if the public transport you’re in offers free Wi-Fi.

Performance Level

Have you watched Jay-R’s Alice Cooper standing ovation-worthy performance in Your Face Sounds Familiar? This is how we can associate Selfie with the RnB singer when it comes to its performance.

If you’re someone who is into treasuring memories through photos and videos, then Selfie may cover them for it has a 16GB internal storage and 2GB RAM for online applications such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and others. But Selfie has already a couple of pre-loaded apps like Cherry Fun Club, Pinoy App Shop, and Cherry Mobile OTA Update.

Writing a new message is made more fun because you can choose from the many options how you want to compose your message. You have TouchPal Cloud, Curve – Word gesture, and Wave – Sentence gesture.

As for its battery life, Selfie is made with a 2300mAh Li-Ion battery that we think should’ve been higher to accommodate all the activities being done.

Selfie allows you to be contacted by your boss or friends through its dual-sim feature. Okay, we have no problem with cutting our old sim card to fit in the nano sim slot, but it was so hard to put our micro sim in the second slot where you can also insert a memory card. We think that Cherry Mobile has to work on this by adding a mini lock perhaps to secure the sim or memory card in place.

Like the newer Cherry Mobile smartphones, Selfie is infused with Android 4.4 Kitkat OS and a 1.7GHz MediaTek octa-core processor which make Internet browsing more efficient. We ran a couple of benchmark tests to see how Selfie surpasses HTC One X and Asus Transformer Prime TF201 and here are the results:

Geekbench: 449 (Single-core score); 2428 (Multi-core score)
AnTuTu Benchmark: 31992
Vellamo: 1445

Overall

From its clear and colorful display to its powerful cameras, Selfie is indeed THE perfect smartphone for selfie fanatics. We’d like to congratulate the Cherry Mobile team for coming up with a gadget good enough to compete against the market’s popular smartphones. At P9,999, you can enjoy an endless photo shoot with share-worthy images you can be truly proud of.
