People take selfies a lot. In fact, according to FeelUnique.com, the average 16-25 year old woman spends five hours a week taking selfies. Before I go to the highly debatable study that men who take selfies a lot may be psychopaths, it’s an amusing fact that taking selfies has kickstarted the tech consumer industry to come up with innovative products.
A couple of months of ago, ASUS launched a new product especially made to people who take selfies. The company aptly named their product the ASUS ZenFone Selfie. It features great front and rear cameras with flashes. You can head on to our review to see how cool the product is.
Front-facing flash compensates for the possibly lack of light when taking photos. ASUS ZenFone Selfie is pretty successful on this, but not on the world’s most used smartphone – the iPhone.
The iPhone’s front camera sucks. It just couldn’t suck the right amount of light to show more facial details, including skin tone. This is the reason why Allan Shoemake invented an illuminated case, the Lumee. You can check out his story on this link.
Earlier this week, I got myself a Lumee for my iPhone 6 Plus, and here are my thoughts about it.
Lumee has a very sturdy build. It is primarily a case, and secondarily a tool to add light so you can take better selfies. If you’re not into selfies, the case may be used as a night light or flash light. It adds a bit of bulk on my iPhone 6s Plus. The phone’s buttons, ports and speakers are fairly accessible even with the case on.
As promised by Lumee, the soft light that the LEDs project are perfect to the skin tone. The light may easily be turned on by pressing the switch at the back of the case. Pressing and holding the switch will dim or brighten the lights.
Lumee has its own rechargeable battery. Fully charging it only takes less than 2 hours, and may be used for more than 2 continuous hours at full brightness and around 36 hours on lowest brightness level.
Priced at PhP2,999, Lumee for the iPhone 6/6s Plus is an excellent accessory that lets you take great selfies. Apart from latter, it is great for Lumee to design and make it with a very sturdy and durable build. I would suggest though for Lumee to come up with another case that has LED strips infront and at the back. I am pretty sure that such will delight mobile photographers even more, thus expanding their market further.
Lumee is now available at all Switch Apple Reseller stores nationwide.
