This is just a bit of tease as we finish our unboxing and hands-on video of Cherry Mobile’s latest action camera. Yup, you read it right – Cherry recently launched their latest action camera, Action Cam Explorer 2. But just in case you missed it out, you posted about it yesterday.

The new action cam is different and much better than its predecessor. Its screen is touch-enabled and it uses Android 5.1 as its operating system. As Cherry’s tiniest Lollipop-powered device, the Explorer 2 is laid in various colors and probably interchangable. “Probably” because we got the gold one, and yet the one featured in their press and marketing materials is blue. There is a way to change the front plate, but unlike the 1st gen Explorer, it didn’t come with extra ones.

Its sides have a distinct texture, which I still can’t make if it brings “premiumness” to the device or not. I’ve got no complaints here, but I would have preferred it to have smooth sides. Different strokes for different folks, I guess.

All the necessary buttons are accessible, even when the device is tightly fit inside the included waterproof case.

The screen has a 2-point multitouch capability. This allows users to zoom into photos and even play games that require 2 fingers. Before you make that look of disgust or disbelief, you will be surprised to know that you can play games such as Minecraft, Bang and other low-graphics and memory demanding games. More on this later when we post our full review. You might not need it, but it would be fun to see how these games will work on this device. Trust me. It’s going to be fun playing Minecraft on Explorer 2.

The meat of the matter isn’t its looks but all the things that you can do with it. Thanks to the Android Lollipop 5.1 pre-installed to the Explorer 2. Apart from taking wide angle photos and videos like most travelers and photo bugs would love to do with this action camera, you can also connect this directly to the internet via Wi-Fi connection and share photos on the fly. Facebook and Instagram are pre-installed, and may also be updated provided that you’ve already keyed in your Google credentials.

We are reserving the photos and videos we took for our next post. Meanwhile, feast on the the photos of the hardware we took right after our unboxing session. Videos and photos will come later, guys.
