Photo contests need not to be boring; and must be open to all photographers regardless of device they use. It is an avenue to express emotions and share stories – an invaluable motivator and memory-keeper of goals. This is what AirAsia envisioned when they came up with their AirAsia Annual Photography. Now on its 2nd year, it is the company’s continuous effort to inspire, engage and empower the youth to use photography to bring their goals to fruition, and cherish each moment through snapped photos.
Last August 4, 2016, AirAsia announced the Top 6 young and aspiring travel photographers of their annual photography contest. Their work were judged by world-renowned photographers, branding and visual arts:
- Nachi Ugarte, creative director of GRID magazine
- Jacob Maentz, documentary photographer
- Wawi Navarrosa, artist/photographer, founder of Thousandfold
- Rudy Kaw, AirAsia Group’s head of branding
The winners, as listed below, were selected based on their personality, creativity, content, originality and technical or visual presentation. They emerged as finalists out of 500 contestants.
- Mitihilaya Miclat, Davao
- Eliseo Zuniga, Taguig
- Neil Michael Cardano, Puerto Princesa
- Daniel Magbanua, Quezon City
- Dave Poblete, Makati
- Kimberly Pauig, Pasig
We had a chance to talk to winners and when asked about the devices they used, we were surprised when we knew that while most of them use DSLRs, some of them are also fond of taking photos using iPhone 6 and Galaxy S7.
Among the top 6 photographers, Kimberly Pauig caught our attention. She takes vibrant and well composed photos. She banks on emotions of her subjects, and takes photos at the right time. I bet you’ll agree with us once you check out her instagram account.
