LG Announces Multimedia Oriented V20 Smartphone

Following on the footsteps of its predecessor, LG Electronics has recently announced the newest addition to its V-series lineup, the LG V20, which presents itself as a multimedia oriented device designed to give users the best audio and video experience.

Steady Record 2.0

Powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 820, the V20 is equipped with Steady Record 2.0 which takes advantage of the processor’s Electronic Image Stabilization 3.0 for sharper video while taking care of shaky images.

Hi-Fi Video Recording

The V20 gives users the capability to record Hi-Fi videos and manually adjust settings such as Low Cut Filter (LCF) which takes out unwanted background noise and a Limiter (LMT) for setting recording distance.

Purest Audio Experience

Hi-Fi Quad DAC

The LG V20 is the first smartphone to use a 32-bit quad DAC powered by ESS Technology. This means that the device can deliever sound with up to 50 percent minimized distortion and ambient noise. It also supports a wide variety of music formats including FLAC, DSD, AIFF, and ALAC.

HD Audio Recorder

Users of the V20 can capture studio quality audio using the device’s three high AOP microphones. Studio mode offers manual sound control with an easy to use interface. Same as what can be found in video cameras, and then using Music Recorder, they can create high quality audio with recorded voices over the music. This can then be used for auditions.

Front/Rear Wide-Angle Lens

Both the front and rear cameras of the V20 feature wide angle lenses (Front: 120 degrees, Back: 135 degrees) which makes it ideal for capturing photos with a large group of people (ex: in a stadium). The 75-degree lens can also capture sharp images at 16MP.
Auto Shot

The Auto Shot feature uses face recognition to determine when the subject is smiling and then takes a photo accordingly. This usually reduces shake and the chances of getting a blurred shot, since there is no need to actually press the shutter button.

Hybrid Auto Focus

The Hybrid Auto Focus feature of the V20 involves the integration of three mechanisms: Laser Detection Auto Focus, Phase Detection Auto Focus, and Contrast Auto Focus. For every shot taken, the device determines whether Laser or Phase Detection Auto Focus should be used, and then refines it further using Contrast AF. This feature ensures that photos taken will come out with a good level of sharpness regardless of the lighting condition.

Second Screen

The signature feature of the V10 returns to the V20 with some improvements: double the brightness and 50% bigger font size. This second screen allows users to view notifications and alerts with ease in outdoor environments. There’s also an Expandable Notifications feature wherein a user can tap on an icon in the second screen to view the entire contents of a long message or quickly send a reply.

LG UX 5.0+

The LG V20 runs on LG’s UX 5.0+ skin, which is an enhanced version of the UX 5.0 on the G5. The V20 is also the first smarthphone to run its skin on top of the latest version of Android, Nougat.

In Apps

The V20 is the first smartphone to feature Google’s In Apps, which helps users find content not only from built-in apps such as contacts and messages, but also from user-installed apps as well.

Premium design in a durable body

Premium Materials

As a flagship device, the V20 sports a premium metal design almost similar to the G5. It uses premium materials for construction such as AL6013 Metal, a silicon based material primarily used in aircraft, sailboats and mountain bikes. Its also protected by Silicone Polycarbonate (Si-PC) which reduces shock from drops by more than 20%.

Durability

The LG V20 has passed MIL-STD 810G Transit Drop Test for durability. Which means it is designed to withstand shock and still work even when dropped from a height of four feet and landing in different positions.

The V20 will be available in Korea staring this month, with announcements regarding launch dates in other markets to be revealed in the weaks to come.
