At last, after a month of teasers and leaks, the Cherry Mobile Defender is finally out. We received a review unit from Cherry Mobile to give you all an exclusive look at their first Helio P10-powered IP68 smartphone.
Check out our full unboxing and hands-on video below.
Apart from being the company’s first Helio P10 device, this is also their first IP68 Android Smartphone. The Cherry Mobile Rover, which they sold last 2014, was only IP67 certified; and the Cherry Mobile U2 wasn’t a smartphone at all. The Defender, technically, is a huge leap from the company’s previous “tough” category phones.
The device is a little heavy, and that’s understandable since it has a hard shell coating. The latter is a bit of letdown for me, to be honest, because I prefer my phone to be light and pocketable. However, its being waterproof and dustproof (and probably shockproof) require a frame that can withstand various forms of pressure and elements.
The phone can (technically) stay up for a day or even more because of its 4200mAh battery capacity. The device has 3GB RAM; and upon boot, you can use up to 1.8GB of its available memory for various applications. The device has huge storage space – 32gb – and this is something that will definitely delight app and game hogs like us. Combine all these – power, battery capacity and relative find RAM configs – and you will get a decently specced bulk device.
Dual SIM and micro SD card trays are accessible. However, this can’t easily be accessed as it requires a flat-head screwdriver to remove the access plate. The trays are protected with a waterproof rubber layer too.
We will review this device, and will give you our full report in 2-3 weeks. In the meantime, please comment your questions and requests for our reference. We will try our best to include our responses and reactions on our review.
