Through a demo which was conducted at the Nokia Manila Technology Center in Quezon City, Nokia and Smart have just made another mark in history as for the first time in PH, they were able to achieve 5G speeds of 2.5Gbps over a live network with a latency of just 1 millisecond!

5G opens up a lot of opportunities such as remote surgery, industrial production using real-time responsive robots, vr, and autonomous driving. Powered by the Nokia OZO Virtual Reality Camera, the demo focused on broadcasting immersive 3D 360 VR content. The demo also made use of the Nokia AirFrame Data Center platform for the low latency requirements.

We are excited to work with Nokia in conducting cutting-edge research and development for 5G. This is a key part of our efforts to transform the PLDT and Smart network into the country’s most future-ready data infrastructure delivering a wide range of gigabit digital solutions. – Manny V Pangilinan, Chairman and CEO of PLDT and Smart

The demo is part of Smart’s vision to develop 5G capabilities by the year 2020, and the company is looking forward to working together with Nokia by taking advantage of its expertise in the technology.
