I have never used an ASUS phone before. Also, I have been used to phones being the size of my current phone, the Iphone 4s.

So the first thing that came to mind while handling the ASUS ZENFONE 3 ULTRA was: “This thing is huge!”

ASUS Zenfone 3 Ultra 13The Ultra was a luxurious thing to handle, but I was afraid to hold it in just one hand comfortably. I used it 2 handed, or I might drop it.

I could not imagine myself talking through it as a phone, but oh man, I was already dreaming of watching YouTube videos and movies on it. The screen is 6.8 inches, perfect for handheld viewing. It has a very wide viewing angle, almost 180 degrees. A barkada of 10 can sit side by side and still be able to watch the same video on the same unit.

ASUS Zenfone 3 Ultra 22It has a dedicated TV display processor. While watching movies and videos stored on the phone itself, you can really see how smooth the motions are. It was like watching on a big high end LED screen, the ones I only usually see at the mall, at appliances stores displays.

The screen is Corning Gorilla glass 4, it is scratch resistant. I tried to scratch it with the usual keys and no visible marks were left on it. I even tried cutting and slicing over it with a pretty sharp knife. Not a scratch. The glass was still in pristine condition, like nothing ever happened to it.

It has DTS enabled earphone jacks. I plugged a nice pair of earbuds and I was like in a movie theater. The sound was crisp and immersive.

The back of the phone is made with aerospace grade aluminum alloy. It’s sandblasted matte finish gives a feel of luxury, but honestly I think it is susceptible to getting scratched. You have to buy it a good protective case if you want to preserve it metallic beauty.

ASUS Zenfone 3 Ultra 3The Zenfone 3 Ultra boasts of its invisible antenna technology wich enabled them to build the back of the phone with a beautiful one piece of solid aluminum.

It also has a 5 magnet speaker that can be very loud, especially while playing music or videos while inside an enclosed room. It can really fill up the space with sound while not being distorted.

As this was my first time holding an ASUS phone, I discovered after a few seconds of looking for the volume rocker on the side, that it was at the back. The shiny obling shaped metal piece with engraved concentric circles. It also doubled as a camera shutter button for selfies. The placement of the button was good for taking selfies with the front cam.

The cameras both front and back has a large aperture of f2.0, that means it can really let light in while taking pictures. This can really be useful in dimly lit situations like dinner parties. The rear facing camera has a really quick focusing capability because of the laser and phase focus technology. It also has image stabilization, optical and electronic. So taking pictures with one slightly shaky hand is not a problem.

All in all, in my very non techy point of view, the ASUS Zenfone 3 Ultra is a beautiful and luxurious phone. It’s big size is both an advantage and disadvantage. While you can view videos and pictures better with a larger screen, it does make it quite fumbly to hold in just one hand.

ASUS Zenfone 3 Ultra 2You can view nice video on it, hear superb audio with the speaker and DTS earphones. You can take great photos with it.

The technology put into it makes the average user (me) have an experience worth bragging about.

After handling the ASUS Zenfone 3 Max, it made me feel the old phone was so teeny tiny.
