After the long wait, the countless rumors, speculations, and renders, Samsung has finally lifted the curtain on their newest flagships, the Galaxy S8 and S8+
Infinity Display
The S8 and S8+ incorporates a set of new features designed to change the way you think about what smartphones are capable of. Starting with a new Infinity Display, which fuses revolutionary aesthetics along with advanced technology to produce an end-to-end screen that spills over the sides of the device, which in turn forms a completely smooth and continuous surface minus the bumps and angles, only pristine glass which flows seamlessly into an Aluminium shell.
The Infinity Display is showcased on the Galaxy S8 at 5.8-inches, and 6.2-inches on the S8+.
This new technology also offers an even more immersive viewing experience unlike anything before. The borderless display paves the way for an unhindered and wider cinematic view in Landscape mode, getting rid of the black bars to fill the entire screen. It’s also engineered for better consumption for almost any type of content, taking full advantage of the larger display to accommodate more text and images.
Vivid and Striking Photos
Photos are more than just seizing the moment, and in the S8 and S8+, these irreplaceable memories become even more crystal clear, thanks to a 12MP Dual Pixel rear camera. Samsung decided to bring this technology, which can only be found on DSLRs to its flagship smartphones to enable super fast focus for crisp, detailed, and strikingly clear shots.
The larger pixels along with the f/1.7 lens allow the S8 and S8+ to take bright pictures even in challenging conditions. The cameras on both models are also equipped with Multi-Frame Technology, which captures multiple shots and layers them into one final photo, resulting in clear, blur-free photos even when the subject is on the move.
Samsung has also upgraded the Front Camera on both models to 8MP, taking the selfie-experience to the next level. It also has Smart Autofocus, which enables clearer shots of subjects over the background.
Focus on Security
The Galaxy S8 and S8+ comes with advanced biometric authentication features. Aside from the now standard Fingerprint Sensor which can be found at the back, they have also incorporated Face Recognition, and an Iris Scanner, offering more options which can be used interchangeably depending on the user’s preferences.
Powerful and Efficient
With Smartphones becoming an extension of ourselves, Samsung has found a way to keep these devices as energy-efficient as possible by fitting the S8 and S8+ with the world’s first 10nm mobile processor which combines a seamless, uninterrupted experience with less battery consumption. The S8 and S8+ are equipped with 3,000mAh and 3,500mAh batteries respectively.
The S8 and S8+ are also IP68 certified for water and dust resistance. This means that they can be submerged in 1.5 meters of water for half an hour without any issues. They are also dust-tight, which means they are safe from sand, dust, and soil. No need to worry about spills or accidentally dropping your phone in water.
The S8 and S8+ both sport 64GB of internal storage, expandable up to 256GB via MicroSD Card.
Comes with an Intelligent Assistant
Samsung also introduces its first ever intelligent personal assistant, Bixby on the S8 and S8+. It uses the camera to categorize an image into the following: text, images, shopping, QR code, location, and wines. It can then give you a date about a certain place or icon, extract the text from an image and put it in a word file, translate text into 52 different languages, and give you assistance when shopping.
You can also ask Bixby to organize the photos in your albums, edit them, send text messages to different contacts, and much much more.
A Repertoire of Accessories
Three new accessories were also introduced with the new smartphones. There’s the Samsung DeX, which arranges your Android interface to a desktop like one when the phone is connected to it. You’ll be able to navigate your apps and other content as if you’re using a desktop computer. The best thing about it is that even if you disconnect your phone from it, it saves what you were doing and changes it back to mobile format.
There’s also the Gear 360, which allows you to view, capture, and share moments to important events in 360° and 4K video formats. And lastly, the upgraded Gear VR, which now comes with a controller, enabling better interaction and more freedom to navigate and explore different virtual worlds.
The Galaxy S8 and S8+ will be available in Midnight Black, Maple Gold, and the new Orchid Gray, with pre-orders starting April 17 up to April 29, 2017.
Smart is also offering the Galaxy S8 and S8+ via their new postpaid plans. Pro-tip: get yourself a Plan 399 + PhP1500 (for phone amortization), and add a one-time fee of PhP3000 for a Galaxy S8, or PhP6000 for Galaxy S8+.
