Sony just released its presentation for their 2017 Corporate Strategy Meeting and revealed numbers that’ll make your eyes pop.

For starters, Sony estimates close to 80 million PS4 units cumulatively by the end of 2017. With just 4 years after launch, the PS4 already sold more than half of the estimated sales of the PS2 – the console with the longest run at 13 years.

Not only that, the monthly “active” users of Playstation Network are now at 70 million. One can surmise that these “active” users at least logged in thru consoles and handhelds that are currently supported, namely the PS VITA, PS3 and the PS4. The fact that they mentioned “active” means its a receptive, captured market that can easily be tapped for any new game or peripheral. Developers will want to churn out quality games too due to the huge gamer base.

And to us gamers? With Sony’s focus on profitability, expect Sony to churn out AAA games that support premium-priced peripherals like Sony VR or even the PS4 Pro.
