After it was unveiled a few months back, the newest version of Android has been officially confirmed by Google. Android 8 is named Oreo, an update that brings a ton of new features and improvements.

When we talk of major updates, speed is one of the things that we focus on most. Oreo is significantly faster, in fact, up to 2x faster on bootup compared to Nougat. Speed tests were done in Pixel devices, so the results may vary in other devices.

There’s also a notable increase in menu speeds, thanks to Oreo’s ability to limit background activity for apps that you rarely use, making those resources available to the more utilized ones.

There’s also support for Autofill, so you don’t have to enter your credentials in apps again and again. Another new features is Picture in Picture, which allows you to minimize a video call while doing other things, and be able to switch it back to full screen on a single tap.

Oreo also introduces new notification dots along with over 60 new emojis. The update will start rolling out to the Nexus 5X, Nexus 6P, Nexus Player, Pixel C, Pixel, and Pixel XL, with other compatible devices to follow.
