MTECH 2017 Showcases Meralco’s New Digital Innovations

Yesterday, Meralco launched their third Meralco Technology and Innovation Summit, or MTECH, to show off the company’s recent achievements and innovations in this digital age. The focus of the keynote speech by Meralco’s Chief Technology Advisor, Gavin D. Barfield, was about delivering a digital customer experience that would suit how we interact with our devices nowadays and developing more solutions to make our lives a little easier.

“Meralco has invested heavily in new technologies as we undergo a digital transformation of our company. We will soon be launching a whole new digital customer experience more suited to the next generation of customers – the digital natives. We are also developing mobility solutions and adding more sensors, automation, and smart meters to our network to improve reliability and enable the integration of renewables,” Barfield says.

The lobby of the Lopez Building also has various booths to highlight new technologies that Meralco could utilize in the future to help serve us better. Booths that highlighted the many uses of Augmented Reality and Virtual Reality were there to give attendees a a taste of the future and other technologies that are exhibited by numerous vendors are eager to demonstrate how they could help with logistics and planning.

During the three day summit, MTECH 2017 will also include a cybersecurity competition called FORGE to help bolster cybersecurity in the country and pocket sessions where local and globally-renowned tech firms discuss new disruptive technologies and innovations as well.

MTECH 2017 is open to the public and it runs from November 21st until the 24th at the Lopez Building along Ortigas Avenue.
