We’re not strangers to the hassles of managing files on a phone. Having to navigate a maze of folders, eating up data just to share files to someone else, and of course, there’s storage space issues.

Now, Google has come up with a new app called Files Go, which can be used for freeing up your phone’s storage, finding files faster than ever, and easily sharing them with others.

  • Freeing up space. Files Go features personalized suggestions on which files to delete. That includes unused apps, large files, duplicates, or low resolution videos. It also makes use of Google’s Mobile Vision technology to detect memes.
  • Finding files faster. Gone are the days when you need to navigate through a maze of files and folders just to find what you need. With Smart Filters, File Go automatically organizes images, videos, apps, documents, and others to make it easy to find different kinds of media.
  • Backup files to the cloud. Unsure whether to delete a file or not? with Files Go, you can easily upload it to Google Drive, or any other cloud storage app.
  • Share files offline. Transfer files directly to another phone without consuming mobile data. Transfers are encrypted and can achieve speeds of up to 125Mbps.

Files Go will also be offered as part of a suite of apps included for Android Oreo Go Edition smartphones that will be on sale next year. The app will also come pre-installed on selected devices from Nokia Mobile, Panasonic, Micromax, Lava, Intex, Karbonn Mobiles, and Xolo.

Files Go is now available as a free download from the Google Playstore and is compatible with devices running Android 5.0 Lollipop and higher.
