The future of mobile computing has never been more exciting. That’s because Qualcomm has just recently announced the successor the highly acclaimed Snapdragon 835, the new Snapdragon 845 mobile platform!

Designed for the most demanding tasks in mind, the Snapdragon 845 once again pushes the boundaries of performance, using Qualcomm’s expertise to create a platform of a new and immersive multimedia experiences including eXtended Reality (XR), on-device AI, lightning-fast connectivity, and improved security.

Immerse

The Snapdragon 845 makes use of a Qualcomm Spectra 280 image signal processor and the Adreno 630 visual processing subsystem, bringing improvements such as 64x more HDR color information for video capture and playback on UHD displays. That means your 4K videos should now look even better.

The Adreno 630 GPU in particular, offers 30% improved graphics performance and power efficiency over the previous generation.

AI

Delivering up to 3x better AI performance from the previous generation, the Snapdragon 845 transforms your devices into the ultimate personal assistant, changing and simplifying how you take videos and photos, enhancing your VR games, along with more natural voice interaction.

Interact with your devices all-day, thanks to the new Qualcomm Aqstic audio codec and low-power audio subsystem, which allows for ultra low-power voice processing.

Secure

Due to the significant growth of data being stored in mobile devices, it has been a focus to create more secure authentication mechanisms for increased reliability. Snapdragon 845 introduces the Secure Processing Unit (SPU) for improved biometrics security and user or application key management for encrypting critical information.

Connect

The Snapdragon 845 features the X20 LTE modem, which allows users to download a full movie in less than 3 minutes. It also supports a wider range of bands across the spectrum, designed to accelerate global availability of LTE in preparation for 5G. The modem supports LTE Cat 18 with peak download speeds of up to 1.2 Gbps, up to 5x carrier aggregation, License Assisted Access, Dual SIM VoLTE, as well as 4 x 4 MIMO on up to 3 aggregated carriers.

Snapdragon 845 also features 802.11ad Wi-Fi with speeds of up to 4.6 Gbps, along with integrated 802.11ac Wi-Fi that provides up to 16X faster connection setup. There are also proprietary enhancements to Bluetooth 5 which allows users to simultaneously broadcast audio to multiple devices, and reduces battery consumption on wireless headsets by up to 50%.

Perform

The Snapdragon 845 offers up to 30% improved power efficiency for video capture, games and XR applications compared to the previous generation, while the Adreno 630 GPU delivers up to 30% improvement in graphics performance.

With the new Kryo 385 architecture, you can expect up to 25% performance improvement in gaming, application launch times, and resource intensive applications compared to the previous generation.

“As leaders in mobile technology, we will transform the mobile experience with comprehensive advancements in visual processing, AI, security and connectivity. The Snapdragon 845 Mobile Platform is the next horizon of innovation and is going to transform the way people use their mobile devices to make their lives better.” – Alex Katouzian, senior vice president and general manager, mobile, Qualcomm Technologies, Inc.
