LG is the latest manufacturer to jump into the K-pop wave, as it prepares its most ambitious campaign to date, with one headed by today’s hottest K-pop boy band, BTS.
The wildly popular group has been named by Time Magazine as one of the 25 most influential people for 2017, is the first to win as Top Social Artist at the Billboard Music Awards, and the first to perform at the prestigious American Music Awards, they are set to appear in a series of TV advertisements and social media campaigns for LG’s mobile products, starting with its soon to be launched flagship smartphone.
LG is banking on the group to help establish a new image for its smartphones in the global scene. BTS’ fanbase, dubbed as the ARMY has a massive following not only in South Korea but across Asia, the US, and South America as well. In fact, the video for their most recent single “Mic Drop” has already surpassed 200 million views, the 7th by the group to achieve such a milestone.
Here in the Philippines, the Korean boy band, composed of rappers Rap Monster, Suga and J-Hope, and vocalists Jin, Jimin, V and Jungkook, has a huge following especially among millennials and youthful music lovers. At their sold-out concert last year, fans lined up at ticket outlets the evening before selling, and the ticketing website crashed a number of times due to the large volume of users.
[su_quote cite=”Kim Su-young, vice president and head of marketing for LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company”]BTS achieved international superstardom through raw talent, innovation and authenticity even though many gave them little chance of real success. These qualities make BTS a great match with our smartphone brand, and we hope to be able to convey to the global audience that LG mobile devices are also about delivering bold innovation with a unique attitude.[/su_quote]
LG and BTS will collaborate on a marketing campaign the reflects the unique and colorful personalities of each member. It will also highlight the group’s talent and attitude, along with its relationship with fans. The qualities that LG wants to bring to its products this quarter.
