We first knew Tronsmart as a sole provider for our battery needs and other gadget essentials. With different awesome gadgets announced this year, Tronsmart also updated their roster by adding their first wireless earbuds, the Spunky Buds. The name seems comical but upon using it for quite some time now, we can say that this is the perfect bang-for-the-buck wireless earbuds for someone who runs a lot, hears their favorite music or even watches movie from their devices. This is our review of the Tronsmart Spunky Buds.

Build and Features

Tronsmart Spunky Buds 1 - Tronsmart Encore Spunky Buds Wireless Earbuds ReviewThe Tronsmart Spunky Buds comes with an enclosed capsule, which is actually its charging case that can be pushed to open. The charging case feels solid but the materials are definitely made from hard plastic. The case also has a 470mAh battery and from my experience, can charge the pair thrice. The capsule has four blue battery light indicators which can be found at the bottom and the microUSB charging port is at right side.

Tronsmart Spunky Buds 2 - Tronsmart Encore Spunky Buds Wireless Earbuds ReviewWhen pushed open, you’ll find the pair of Spunky Buds. The earbuds look techy and modern thanks to its cool shiny tile-shaped design. You’ll also find the ear support that perfectly secures the Spunky Buds and true enough, they stay in place, even when running.

The Spunky Buds is also IPX5 certified which means they can be used in the rain and  are also protected from your sweat during a workout.

Tronsmart Spunky Buds 3 - Tronsmart Encore Spunky Buds Wireless Earbuds ReviewThe Spunky Buds also feature Gesture Control. When someone is calling you, just tap the left earbud once, then your call will be answered. (Note: You’ll only hear the caller from the left earbud, in which the microphone is also located) When listening to your favorite music, tap twice to pause and tap thrice for the next track.

Seamless Pairing via Bluetooth 4.2

Spunky BUds - Tronsmart Encore Spunky Buds Wireless Earbuds ReviewThe Spunky Buds has an auto-connect feature which helps you reduce the hustle of connecting and disconnecting the earbuds. Once you activate Bluetooth from your device, just remove the Spunky Buds from its capsule then you’ll hear from its earpiece whether it is the left channel or right and it will also tell you when it is already connected to your device. It uses Bluetooth 4.2, that’s why it has more supported devices.

Hi-Fi Stereo Sound

Tronsmart Spunky Buds 5 - Tronsmart Encore Spunky Buds Wireless Earbuds ReviewIn terms of sound quality, the Spunky Buds is definitely great  for its price tag of Php2,800. The bass is a little bit far from what I expected and from my personal standpoint, the depth of the bass doesn’t satisfy my music needs. However, if you maximize the volume of the earbuds,  it get more noticeable and you’ll hear the clear reverberations of the treble and tone.

Despite being budget earbuds, music from streaming services such as Spotify and Deezer also sounds well on on the Spunky Buds. I’ve also used them to watch movies from my smartphone. Unfortunately, there’s a noticeable delay in audio, which kind of ruins the experience.

Our Verdict
The Tronsmart Encore Spunky Buds is a cheap alternative from Samsung's Gear IconX and Apple's Airpods. From the Php2,800 price tag, the Spunky Buds are a great companion for your workouts and music needs. It has also a ton of cool features like: Gesture Control, IPX5 Certification, Hi-Fi Sound, and Seamless Pairing. One thing that lacks from these earbuds is an app companion for your smartphone that can easily control your personalized equalizer, or control playback.

Tokyo Game Show Special Coverage

Tokyo Game Show 2018

41711344 10155988194573337 3113579199126831104 o - We are going to Tokyo Game Show 2018

Witness this year’s biggest gaming convention in Asia, the Tokyo Game Show 2018. This September 19, our team will fly to Tokyo, Japan, to be part to TGS 2018. Special thanks to our brand partners Huawei Mobile, PLDT Home, Smart Communications and Cherry Mobile for making this coverage possible.

The Gadget Pilipinas Team was given access to a press briefing with Hidetaka Miyazaki, Director from From Software and a bit of hands-on gameplay. Here’s our take on the hands-on gameplay and the insights from the press interview. We also  figured a listicle is in order to rundown why this game will match the hype surrounding it.

Here’s our Top 5 reasons why “Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice” is to die for.

1) The game is Tenchu-inspired

sk8lqukaqalhq2mrzkqd 770x433 - Top 5 reasons "Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice" is to die forIf you’ve played any of the Tenchu games in previous game consoles, you know that the use of the grappling hook to set-up a one-slash-stealth kills from above is a hallmark of the series. Zipping to rooftops and treetops will be the go-to move in this game to get rid of sentries. And yes, those ever-so glorious decapitations and dismemberments with the stealth kill are present.

2) Casual or hardcore can play

sn1rmqcvrwomyuttaoyq 770x433 - Top 5 reasons "Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice" is to die forFrom Software is notorious for challenging games and Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice is no exception. However, Hidetaka Miyazaki, Director of From Software, revealed that he himself is a casual gamer and has made it clear that the game should be accessible to beginners and experienced players alike.

3) Upgradeable prosthetic arm

jjn6e6ivua5u142iukql 770x433 - Top 5 reasons "Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice" is to die forThat prosthetic arm that Sekiro has isn’t just for looks. It can launch a grappling hook and is upgradeable too. No details were revealed but its good to know that a skill-tree based system is in place. Think Horizon Zero Dawn or Spiderman on the way skill and gadgets are upgraded. Tech upgrades set in feudal Japan? What’s not to like?

4) Play the style that suits you

jo1pi5md3myj0pxynz9p 770x433 - Top 5 reasons "Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice" is to die forStealth like Tenchu or head-on like Dark Souls? It’s up to you. What’s clear is that you can’t use stealth for the whole campaign since the game wasn’t designed that way. Stealth can be used to thin enemy numbers and to preserve your health before confronting the big boss. The mix of stealth and hack and slash is always a good mix to change-up the pace and should suit any gameplay style.

5) Single-player only campaign can last 20 to 30 hours

ocxemodvr6oa72argpyo 770x433 - Top 5 reasons "Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice" is to die forThat’s the length of the campaign as per Miyazaki. The game is focused-solely on the single-player experience. No more wayward players who can just jump-in and help or derail your campaign. From Software also focused on the story-telling. Given that no resources were spent in developing the multiplayer aspect, expect the campaign to take it up a notch.

Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice will be released on March 22, 2019 on PC, Xbox One and the Playstation 4.
