Announced at COMPUTEX 2018, the ROG Phone is deemed as the ultimate device for mobile gaming. Designed with ease of use and maximum performance in mind, every bit of its design, its components, the software, and its accessories are there to make sure that nothing will distract you from performing at your best, across almost any game title.
Unboxing
The ROG Phone boasts a 6-inch FHD+ 90Hz display with a 1ms response time for smooth and fluid visuals. Thanks to a special version of the Snapdragon 845 that’s clocked at 2.96GHz and 8GB of RAM, it should be able to handle anything you throw at it with ease.
There’s even X mode, which optimizes the phone’s performance, and prevents notifications from distracting you. This can be triggered by squeezing the sides of the device.
To sustain maximum performance for extended hours, the device boasts a vapor chamber cooling system, and the detachable AeroActive Cooler acts as an additional vent. Oh, and it’s RGB-enabled as well.
The ROG Phone has two charging ports – one on the side, and one at the bottom. That means you can use it comfortably in any orientation without having to mind the charging cable. Its 4,000mAh battery can deliver up to 7 hours of game time over Wi-Fi, and with ASUS HyperCharge Technology, the device can be charged from 0% to 60% in just 30 minutes.
There are also a number of accessories specifically made for this phone, such as a Twinview dock, which gives you the option of checking out comments on a livestream through a secondary display, a Mobile Desktop Dock, and a Gamevice and WiGig dock that turns the phone into a controller. It even has its own suitcase!
Just How Good is it, Actually?
To give you an idea of how this phone performs. We tested PUBG Mobile on it and CPU usage was at about 31%, and GPU at 43% GPU with X-Mode On. The Aero Active Cooler also kept the temperature at 36-degrees at high settings. You’ll find more details in our first impressions.
Synthetic Benchmark (AnTuTu)
Surprisingly, the AnTuTu score was higher when XMode was off. Might just be a software glitch though.
