A few days ago, FUJIFILM Philippines invited several members of the media to an exclusive sneak peak of its latest Rangefinder camera, the GFX-50R. A medium format camera that’s developed to achieve a lightweight and compact system, while delivering outstanding picture quality for everyday shots.
Both the GFX 50S and GFX 50R’s magnesium alloy bodies are dust and water resistant. The GFX 50R only weighs 775g, and its internal weather seals allow it to withstand dust and low temperatures, making it a great choice for tough shooting conditions as well as for studio use.
Dial-based operation means you have precise and absolute control over every element of the shot. Operational dials are in fact, milled from aluminium blocks to give that premium texture, and the use of rubber ensures a comfortable grip.
The GFX-50R boasts a 43.8 x 32.9mm CMOS medium format sensor, boasting an effective resolution of 51.4 million pixels. It’s design has been carefully optimized – allowing it to achieve a high level of sharpness and broad dynamic range. With a lowest native ISO of 100, and a 14-stop dynamic range achieved with 14-bit RAW data ensures that you get high definition images in a variety of shooting conditions.
At the helm of the GFX-50R is the X-Processor Pro image processing engine, which can maximize the 51.4MP sensor. Thanks to advanced processing, it’s able to accelerate and optimize the camera’s performance. You get stunning color reproduction with FUJIFILM’s unique film simulation modes, in-camera RAW conversion to the 8-bit TIFF format, accurate contrast AF, quick startup time, and minimal shutter release time lag and shooting intervals between frames.
At the back of the camera is a 2.2-inch 2.36M-dot LCD monitor with touchscreen panel for intuitive operation. It tilts in three or two directions for easy framing and ease of use when shooting from high or low angles. It sports a dual-card slot with support for high-speed UHS-II cards.
Both the GFX-50S and GFX-50R are equipped with a 3.69M-dot electronic viewfinder with 100% coverage. With dedicated rich lens elements, it can achieve high definition finder live view and offers a diopter adjustment range of -4m to +2m.
The GFX-50R supports a variety of formats, including two sizes and three compression levels of JPEGs, along with compressed and uncompressed RAW. It offers an ISO sensitivity range of ISO100-12800 with extended sensitivities of ISO50, ISO25600, ISO51200, and ISO102400. RAW format is supported at all these ISO settings.
