Just when you thought in-display fingerprint sensors were the end of the story, a company suddenly pushes it a bit further. Just recently, Xiaomi posted a video on its Weibo account that showcases what could be the next trend in smartphone design – an in-display camera.

The video compares two phones side by side, one with a notched display, and one with the in-display solution. Notice that the user is visibly able to take a selfie on the latter, as if nothing was blocking the optics.
According to Xiaomi – the trick is to make the display transparent such that it does not reflect light when the screen is black and the diodes are off. They also claim that they are capable of placing a 20MP sensor with a 5P lens under the OLED panel.
The company did not reveal any further details, but the technology could be packed in its next flagship. We’ll have to wait and see.
