It’s a great day for Filipino consumers, as Mislatel has managed to secure the permit to operate as the third major Telco in the country.
President Rodrigo Duterte spearheaded the awarding of the certificate of public convenience. The consortium is composed of China Telecommunications Corp., Udenna Corp., and Chelsea Logistics Holding Corp.
Mislatel has announced that it will be renamed to Dito Telecommunity Corporation, quite a catchy name, and we can already predict social media erupting with memes about this. In any case, they also announced that a pilot user program will be done towards the end of 2019 to test network conditions and more.
As far as promises are concerned, Mislatel has also committed to a 27 mbps broadband speed in its first year of operation, and 55 mbps in its fifth.
Is this the answer that many consumers are waiting for? will Mislatel be able to deliver on its promises? we’ll just have to wait and see. At the very least, this new competitor might force the other Telcos to further up their game.
