It seems like Qualcomm has a new next-gen chip in the pipes after a new chipset codenamed Qualcomm Kona surfaces on Geekbench.
We’ve already seen quite a number of smartphones equipped with the Snapdragon 855+ chipset. But the new Qualcomm Kona that has recently been spotted on Geekbench may just be the upcoming Snapdragon 865. The next-gen chip is expected to power the 2020 flagship. It looks more and more so with a massive score of 12,915 multi-score.
It is reported that the device has Android Q and 6GB RAM along with the new chipset. Although, it is also possible that it is just a testing platform and not an actual smartphone.
The base frequency is 1.8GHz but it is expected that the new chip will pass the 3GHz threshold even with only one core. The company is already close to hitting the threshold with the Kryo 485 CPU core of the current Snapdragon 855+ with it hitting 2.96GHz speeds. The 3GHz expectation isn’t too far-fetched with the new CPU.
Reports anticipate Qualcomm Kona’s reveal to happen around December in Hawaii, USA, where Qualcomm hosts its annual developer meeting.
Ram found his love and appreciation for writing in 2015 having started in the gaming and esports sphere for GG Network. He would then transition to focus more on the world of tech which has also began his journey into learning more about this world. That said though, he still has the mentality of "as long as it works" for his personal gadgets.
