The latest entry-level member of the Redmi brand has been announced – Redmi 8A. It brings quite a lot to the plate, being a step up over its predecessor. This includes a larger 5000mAh battery as well as the new Aura Wave grip design from Xiaomi.

The Redmi 8A has a larger 6.22-inch HD+ IPS display with a waterdrop notch, protected by Gorilla Glass 5. Tucked away in the notch is an 8MP selfie cam, while at the rear is a single 12MP f/1.8 Sony IMX163 camera with dual PD autofocus. It doesn’t feature a fingerprint sensor but does have face unlock.

Powering the device is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 439 chipset coupled with 2GB/3GB RAM and 32GB of internal storage with a microSD slot for expansion. The phone will ship with MIUI 10 on top of Android 9 Pie but an update will soon introduce the new MIUI 11.

Its 5000mAh battery supports up to 18W fast charging but only comes with a 10W adapter in the box. It does charge via the type-C port though, which is always a good thing. The new Redmi device is also splash proof with a P2i rating and comes with an IR port, 3.5mm headphone jack, and dual SIM support.
