Pokemon Home transfer process sounds complicated, but it’s really not

Pokemon Sword and Shield has been out for quite a bit and while it has been enjoying some degree of success, there’s no denying the frustrations of some because of the incomplete Pokedex. The famous tagline “Gotta Catch ’em All” can’t really apply if all Pokemon aren’t really in the game, right? What’s a Pokemon trainer to do? Enter Pokemon Home.

Like the Pokemon Bank on the Nintendo eShop, Pokemon Home will be a cloud based paid service for IOS, Android, and the Switch. It will serve as a new storage for your Pokemon where you can transfer data one-way from the Pokemon Bank, Pokemon Let’s Go series of games, and even Pokemon GO. It will also allow Sword and Shield owners to trade their Pokemon with each other.

The transfer process may sound intimidating at first, but it’s really not, as illustrated by reddit user dominodave in this chart:

Basically, for the Switch titles plus Pokemon Go, you’ll be doing your business directly with Home. For any of the older generations, you’ll have to transfer them from your respective system to the Pokemon Bank, and finally to Pokemon Home.

So for all you Pokemon trainers out there to make the most out of it, you’ll need to cough up some cash since it’s a paid subscription, not to mention having your old Pokemon game data.

The Pokemon Home service is set to launch sometime in February 2020.
