Any gamer worth their salt would know a couple of cheat codes from back in the day. Any gamer worth their salt SHOULD at least know one and if there’s ever any code to know, it would be the Konami code.

The Konami code, as it has been well known, started because of a Gradius arcade port test so that it would make the process a lot easier. Up to this day, the code is remembered by a lot of people and it is with great sadness to know that Kazuhisa Hashimoto, the creator of the code, has recently passed away.

The Konami Twitter account has officially announced this to pay their respects:

This code was used most of the time for the game called Contra and Gradius, wherein you will be granted 30 lives instead of 3 and unlock all upgrades respectively, a helping hand for such tough games back then. The code was also used across several more franchises and even Fortnite used the code last year during the black hole instance.

Together with the gaming world, we mourn the loss of Hashimoto-san but his memory will live with us forever.

F’s in the chat, boys.

Videogame Content Editor. A father and gamer. Would gladly trade what’s left of his soul to witness a Final Fantasy 6 and Xenogears remake done during his lifetime.
