Let’s celebrate the season of hearts with some of our favorite video game love teams!

Love is in the air this Valentine’s Day and we figured it ought to be nice to put together a list of some of our favorite love teams from a variety of video games! Well also because we’re suckers for a good love story and really, who isn’t? From ones that we grew up to and ones that are more recent, it’s just straight-up love!

For obvious reasons, we’re not going to be able to cover every couple out there. We’ve decided to cut the list down to five, thus there will be a lot of love teams or I guess “ships” that have been omitted, so please don’t hate us over it! Some of these include Link and Zelda from The Legend of Zelda series, Mario and Princess Peach from the Super Mario series, and Leon and Ada from Resident Evil, to name a few.

Do note that there are spoilers in this article. If you don’t mind, then read on!

Nathan and Elena – Uncharted series

We open this list with the power couple of Nathan Drake and Elena Fisher from the Uncharted series. Sure, Nathan Drake and Elena Fisher had their own reasons for working together but they grew into their relationship, especially as the series continued.

The fact that the two are some of the few mainstays in the series and we see them both mature and grow is just as real as it gets. It’s like the video game equivalent of the Before trilogy, you watch the budding relationship grow from strangers to a falling out and finding it back in.

Nathan and Elena’s relationship is far from perfect and that’s how real it gets. Which makes it just a beautiful love team!

Rakan and Xayah – League of Legends

Rakan and Xayah, the first couple to be released in League of Legends. Sure, Lucian and Senna can be considered the OG next to Katarina and Garen but the relationship of Rakan and Xayah is just on a different level altogether. They were the first champions to be released alongside each other and first to be able to share a recall to base.

Rakan looks out for Xayah and enables her to do what she does. This is not only seen in the teaser that was released in their release, it is also seen in his abilities in-game. Let’s not forget that the two are pretty much inseparable in their splash art (except for the Invictus Gaming Rakan but that’s a special skin so it doesn’t count).

Love is in the air in both their lore and also in-game.

Ellie and Riley – The Last of Us: Left Behind

In the post-apocalyptic world of The Last of Us, watching young love develop across the DLC Left Behind was just beautiful. It’s a surprisingly pleasant change of pace to a very stressful game.

We’ve seen Ellie tough it out with Joel in a majority of The Last of Us, seeing a bit of who she was before Joel just helped humanize Ellie even more. The friendship of Ellie and Riley in their setting and the eventual reveal of the feelings is just flat out adorable.

Their decision to spend their final hours together instead of suicide just adds to the sweetness of the short-ish relationship that Ellie and Riley had.

Geralt and Yennefer – Witcher series

Next up is Geralt and Yennefer from the Witcher series. This easily could’ve gone Geralt and Triss but Geralt and Yennefer are much more OG.

Geralt and Yennefer, like Nathan and Elena, start at odds with each other. But as the story progresses so does their affection and interest in each other. Yes, Geralt eventually leaves Yennefer and removes the bond that keeps their fates intertwined but we prefer keeping the two together. The rough world that The Witcher is set in, just seeing the two together makes it just a bit even brighter.

It, of course, helps that the two have had steamy moments together like the Unicorn scene and, of course, the intro to Witcher 3.

Squall and Rinoa – Final Fantasy VIII

Last is one of, if not the, original love teams from the highly popular Final Fantasy series. We’re, of course, talking about Squall and Rinoa from Final Fantasy VIII.

Squall was basically your more emo and edgy Cloud in FF8 but we see him grow before our very eyes as the story progresses. Along with this growth and maturity is his growing affection for Rinoa. Coming from the “I don’t care about anyone” vibe that Squall gives off early on to actually showing a fondness for Rinoa was just great character development.

The love team of the Squall and Rinoa even had a music video, Eyes on Me, that was played on television (yes, tv). At some point, I remember getting sick of the song because it was played so much on the local music channel but it’s because of that that we have the two on the list.

Of course there are a lot more “Love Teams” out there and this list barely scratches the surface but it’s definitely awesome to look back and get starry eyed over these lovestruck couples that have inspired us to give love during this season of hearts!
