Pricing is a crucial factor in the next gen war, as proven by the PS4 and Xbox One launch back in 2013. It proved to be a costly move, pun intended, for Microsoft, as it never got enough footing to get back in the groove of the current generation which saw the PS4 hit multiple sales milestones.
The next generation is nearly upon us and both Sony and Microsoft are keeping things as hush hush as possible, especially sensitive details like specs and price point.
Sony Chief Financial Officer Hiroki Totoki had this to say during a recent earnings call:
What is not very clear or visible, it’s because we are competing in the space, so it’s very difficult to discuss anything about the price at this point of time. And depending upon the price level, we may have to determine the promotion that we are going to deploy and how much costs we are prepared to pay.
While it wasn’t explicitly mentioned, we can safely assume that they are waiting for the last possible moment to determine the PS5 price point, most likely waiting for Microsoft to make the first move which will most possibly happen during E3 this year.
We’re predicting a possibly $499.00 price point for both systems, maybe even a high of $599.00. Do you have any predictions as to how much the next generation offerings will go for?
