Did “FREE” get your attention? It should.

Activision has announced that a new Battle Royale game taking cue from the recent Call of Duty: Modern Warfare will be released soon and will be entitled “Warzone”. Best of all? It’s FREE and you don’t need to own a copy of the Modern Warfare game to actually play it.

Check out the official trailer below:

Details on the Activision Blog indicate a few interesting things about Warzone:

  • The new battle royale mode will feature 150 player matches
  • Warzone will have 2 game modes – Battle Royale and Plunder
  • Cross play between PS4, Xbox One, and PC is activated
  • Players who own Modern Warfare will have an additional 20GB download but players who are taking the “free” route will have around 80-100GB of files to download.

The Battle Royale mode will be your traditional format, but this time instead of “The Ring” ala Apex Legends, you’ll have similar mechanic composed of deadly gas that will force the battle inwards. Battles will take place in Verdansk, which is basically “an expansive city with multiple named zones and well over 300 points of interest. Each zone features distinct landmarks like the Gorengard Lumber Yard or the Gora Dam; the zones take place across different environment types like cities and rural areas for unique engagements”

Warzone will also let you commandeer vehicles, which is by no means a new mechanic, but there is quite a lot to choose from – an ATV, Tactical Rover, SUV, Cargo Truck, and a Helicopter.

warzone gulag

Warzone will also implement the “Gulag”, which is a 1on1 faceoff with an eliminated opponent for the chance to jump back right into the action, which is one of the ways to revive in the game. No more excuses of getting jumped from behind, it’s time to basically put up or shut up so you can get back into the fight.

The second is called “Contracts”, which are basically objectives that players can activate during a match that will net you and your squad some cash to either purchase some tactical advantages from “Buy Stations” or to redeploy a downed teammate. This creates opportunities for a lot of clashes to take control of these stations!

warzone rollout

Call of Duty Warzone is scheduled to go live at approximately 11PM Philippine Time on March 10 for Modern Warfare owners and 4 hours later at approximately 3AM on March 11 for the rest.
