Xiaomi has just announced the latest update to its Android skin – MIUI 12. Despite being still based on the latest Android version, Android 10, but it brings simpler animations, better dark mode, and improved privacy controls.

MIUI 12 has all-new launch and closing animations as well as Dark Mode 2.0. The latter brings wallpaper dimming and font adjustment for an even better dark mode experience.

Other visual updates include new live wallpapers around the universe, new always-on display functionality, and new animations for turning off/on things in the control center. In addition, the weather app actually shows the weather, whether it be rainy, cloudy, or sunny.

Perhaps one of the more unique additions is in the privacy department. MIUI 12 now keeps track of the apps’ behavior and alerts you when apps use sensitive permissions. A new virtual ID security protocol is also introduced. This prevents apps from accessing vital information from your device.
