Reports have just surfaced that Huawei will be using BOE on-cell OLED displays for the upcoming Huawei Mate 40 and Mate 40 Pro.

The Huawei Mate 40 will solely feature the Chinese-based OLED displays while the company will use LG and Samsung panels along with the BOE displays for the Mate 40 Pro. The company made a bid to supply the P40 displays earlier this year but the tech wasn’t ready at the time.

The new technology offers better optical and mechanical properties in addition to making them thinner and cheaper. It isn’t without its challenges though, which is why display makers like BOE are taking a while to catch up.

While we’re on the topic of the display of the Huawei Mate 40 series, leakster Rodent950 on Twitter teased some details on the two new flagships from Huawei using emoji. Based on this, we can expect the Mate 40 to have a curved display and a single front camera. The Pro version, on the other hand, will have a waterfall display with a pill-shaped hole for dual selfie cameras.
