Apple has just unveiled two new members in the Apple Watch family – Apple Watch Series 6 and Watch SE. In addition, the company also announced watchOS 7 along with the new Watches.
Ahead of the launch, many were already expecting the Apple Watch Series 6 and Watch SE at the event. Well, not exactly the Watch SE but a more affordable option.
The company also unveiled the eighth-generation iPad and the all-new iPad air, alongside the two new Watches.
Apple Watch Series 6
The Watch Series 6 is the latest smartwatch in the company’s popular Watch series. Design-wise it looks very similar to its predecessors but Series 6 has a couple of more sensors and, of course, upgraded as far as hardware goes.
Series 6 has the Blood Oxygen sensor which employs green, red, and infrared LEDs along with four photodiodes on the back on the back crystal of the Watch. This is used to track SpO2 through an advanced algorithm built into the Blood Oxygen app.
It also packs an always-on altimeter which provides real-time elevation by using a more power-efficient barometric altimeter.
Under the hood, Watch Series 6 has a new dual-core processor dubbed S6 based on A13 Bionic in the iPhone 11. It is said to be 20% faster with apps launching 20% faster. The Watch is also said to offer 18 hours of battery life.
The Watch Series 6 also features the U1 chip and Ultra-Wideband antennas which enable short-range wireless locations. The new Watch also offers faster charging which is said to top up in under 1.5 hours.
The face is an enhanced Always-On Retina display which is said to be 2.5 times brighter than its predecessor outdoors which makes it easier to read while your arm is on the desk. You can now also access the Notification Center and Control Center, tap on complications, and swipe to change faces, without waking up the watch screen.
The Watch Series 6 is available in gray, silver, gold, and blue aluminum finishes, as well as a new (PRODUCT) RED. The top-end Edition comes in natural or space black titanium.
Apple introduced a new band called the Solo Loop which is an ultralight stretchable band made with either soft silicone or braided yarn.
The Apple Watch Series 6 (GPS) starts at USD 399, while the GPS + Cellular variant starts at USD 499.
Apple Watch SE
The Apple Watch SE, on the other hand, is a new of the Watch family that packs the essentials at a more affordable price. The new member is a follow-up to the Watch Series 3.
The Watch SE has a Retina display that is 30% larger than the Watch Series 3. Its size makes it easier to read text and see icons as well as workout metrics.
It packs a dual-core processor that delivers up to twice as fast as the Watch Series 3. It features the latest speaker and microphone which are optimized for better sound quality for calls, Siri, and Walkie-Talkie along with Bluetooth 5.0.
The new Watch also features the same accelerometer, gyroscope, and always-on altimeter as the Apple Watch Series 6.
The Watch SE is available in three finishes made of 100% recycled aluminum and compatible with all Apple Watch bands including the new Solo Loop and Braided Solo Loop.
The Apple Watch SE (GPS) starts at USD 279 with the GPS + Cellular version available at USD 329.
watchOS 7
watchOS 7 introduces new health and fitness features like low-range VO2 max, sleep tracking, automatic handwashing detection, and new workout types. It also has seven new watch face options such as Strips, Chronograph Pro, GMT, and Artist.
