Apple has just unveiled the new iPhone 12 series with four new devices – the iPhone 12, iPhone 12 mini, iPhone 12 Pro, and iPhone 12 Max Pro. The first iPhones powered by Apple’s 5nm A14 Bionic chip with 5G support.
The iPhone 12 series has a Super Retina XDR display with 1200 nits of brightness and more immersive viewing experience. The new iPhones also support HDR 10 and Dolby Vision.
The display is protected by Ceramic Shield which is said to be tougher than any glass. The company added a high-temperature crystallization step that grows nano-ceramic crystals within the matrix which gives it its strength. The iPhone 12 devices also have an IP68 rating which allows them to be submerged in water up to 6 meters for 30 minutes.
One of the unique additions to the new iPhone devices is MagSafe which improves wireless charging and allows easy-to-attach accessories via magnet.
Under the hood, the new iPhone 12 series has the fastest A14 Bionic chip with up to 50% faster CPU and GPU than other smartphone chipsets. The new chip also has a 16-core Neural Engine for an 80% increase in performance.
The iPhone 12 devices will continue to come with the USB-C to Lightning cable but will not come with a power adapter and earbuds.
