Director of Samsung Semiconductor Research Institute in China, Dr. Pana Xuebao has just revealed the Samsung Exynos 1080 chipset, the successor to the Exynos 980. No, this isn’t the full announcement from the company just yet, but we do get at least some details.
The Exynos 1080 isn’t the flagship chip but it will be used in high-end 5G phones. It joins the ranks of the growing roster of 5nm process chipsets such as the Apple A14 chip, Snapdragon 875, Kirin 9000, and the Exynos 2100.
The new chipset will feature Cortex-A78 cores which is an upgrade from A77 in Exynos 980. The A78 can deliver 20% more performance running at 2.1GHz than the A77 running at 2.3GHz.
In the graphics department, the Exynos 1080 features a Mali-G78 which is two generations ahead of the G76 on the 980 chip.
We’ll have to wait and see for the official announcement from Samsung but with the details already we’ve gotten it looks like an exciting chip.
