Apple has just announced the arrival of the first Mac devices powered by the first Apple Silicon chipset – the Apple M1 – MacBook Air, MacBook Pro, and Mac mini.
The Apple M1 chipset is built on a 5nm process with 16 billion transistors. It has a total of eight cores with four high-performance cores for heavier tasks and four high-efficiency cores for everyday tasks. It also packs up to an 8-core GPU.
The first Apple Silicon chipset has a 16-core Neural Engine which is said to be capable of handling 11 trillion operations per second, and the latest Secure Enclave allows for better overall security.
MacBook Air
The MacBook Air powered by the M1 is said to be 3.5x faster in CPU performance than the previous generation and 5x faster in GPU performance. In addition, the new chipset offers better battery life with up to 15 hours of wireless browsing and 18 hours of video playback.
The new MacBook Air, with the M1, gets the latest image signal processor (ISP) which offers better camera image quality. It also features Wi-Fi 6 and two Thunderbolt ports with USB 4.
The 13-inch MacBook Air is available in Space Gray, Gold, and Silver. It comes in these memory configurations:
- Apple M1 8-core CPU + 7-core GPU + 8GB RAM + 256GB SSD = PHP 54,990
- Apple M1 8-core CPU + 8-core GPU + 8GB RAM + 512GB SSD = PHP 68,990
MacBook Pro
The 13-inch MacBook Pro, on the other hand, has up to a 2.8x faster CPU boost than the previous generation and up to 5x faster in the GPU department.
The new M1 chip on the MacBook Pro offers up to 17 hours of wireless browsing and up to 20 hours of video playback. This is twice the battery life of the previous generation.
The new MacBook Pro also has a studio-quality three-mic array for clearer voice recording and calls. It also gets the latest camera ISP for sharper images and video quality. In addition, it features two Thunderbolt ports with USB 4 support.
The new 13-inch MacBook comes in Space Gray and Silver. It comes in these configurations:
- Apple M1 8-core CPU + 8-core GPU + 8GB RAM + 256GB SSD = PHP 71,990
- Apple M1 8-core CPU + 8-core GPU + 8GB RAM + 512GB SSD = PHP 83,990
Mac mini
The new Mac mini now offers up to 3x CPU performance and up to 6x GPU performance than the previous generation. Its advanced thermal design allows it to stay cool and quiet and has Wi-Fi 6 support.
The Mac mini is available in these configurations:
- Apple M1 8-core CPU + 8-core GPU + 8GB RAM + 256GB SSD = PHP 37,990
- Apple M1 8-core CPU + 8-core GPU + 8GB RAM + 512GB SSD = PHP 49,990
The new generation of Apple Mac devices are available to order today on the Apple Store and will be available starting next week.
