realme Buds Air Pro: Budget TWS with ANC with almost zero compromises

Contents (maximize to view)

realme is not a stranger to making TWS anymore. If you have been following our site, you may have already read some of Emman’s reviews of earphones by realme. This new product that they just announced may be the best one they are currently offering.

Build Quality

realme Buds Air Pro has a very familiar look and design. If you’ve seen Vivo TWS Neo and Huawei Freebuds 3i, Buds Air Pro would seem like a distant cousin of the two.

realme buds air pro unit (31)Unlike other TWS I’ve used in the past, Buds Air Pro weighs very light. This says a lot about its build, which is mostly made of plastic. The TWS earphones, including the case, weighs 52 grams. Each earphone weighs 5g, which totals to 10g. I personally want something with a big of weight for two reasons: (1) it usually means it has a better build, and (2) the likeliness of it break is very slim. Only time will tell if this TWS from realme will last better than I expected. For now, I’ll hold on to realme’s claims of its durability.

  • 5,000 times Charging port plug in/out test
  • 10,000 times Charging case open/close test
  • 10,000 times Function buttons duration
  • 10,000 times Power on/off test
  • 65℃/RH95% 168 hours of high temperature-high humidity test
  • -50/75℃ 168hrs temperature test

Since the earphones are very light, they very comfortable to wear. The silicon ear cap is proven to be skin-friendly compared to the ones pre-installed on OPPO Enco Free. There are also plenty of ear caps to choose from.

Easy to Pair Up

Connecting this to my realme X50 Pro 5G is super fast thanks to its compatibility to Google Fast Pair. This means that you can instantly connect to your Android phone with a Google account and enjoy listening to your music without any hassle. This feature is normally found on premium Earbuds and TWS like the Google Pixel Buds 2020, OnePlus Buds and Cleer Ally Plus.

realme new products 38The convenience this feature gives is impressive, and I commend realme for thinking of putting this on realme Buds Air Pro.

Smart

Buds Air Pro is packed with a bevy of smart features. I’ll get into the software and the accompanying features later, but the start things off, it’s good to mention that this has smart wear detection. If you’re listening to music and you take off the buds from your ear, it will automatically pause the music. It will then continue playing once you put the buds pack on your ear.

Since the earphones have capacitive panels, you can assign specific actions to each bud. For my configuration, double-tapping the left earbud will play or pause my music; triple tapping it will play the next track. Double-tapping the right earbud will change the noise-canceling profile; triple tapping it will trigger my default Voice Assistant.

It’s informative but annoying. In terms of features, there’s Game Mode, which supposedly decreases sound latency by -25ms. I’ve tried this and it somehow decreases the latency when playing games. However, if sound queues are important for you when playing competitive games, you’re better off using wired earphones.

You can also boost the volume and bass via realme Link. This will come in very handy when you’re listening to videos with very volume at default.

Balanced Sound Signature

realme Buds Air Pro has a balanced sound signature. It rarely deeps to both highs and lows. It gives off a warm sound sig when you turn on Bass Boost, which I believe is a good decision for realme. Giving the decision to the user to make use of Buds Air Pro’s 10mm bass boost drive is an excellent practice, which is worthy of emulation.

realme Link lacks an in-app equalizer to further tweak the TWS’ sound setting. Unfortunately, realme UI 2.0 does not also have a built-in sound equalizer either so you will need to download from PlayStore if you wish to tweak specific frequencies.

The noise-canceling on this TWS is top-notch. They are not lying when they said that it can cancel up to 35db. It’s amazing that realme was able to bring a feature something like this to something that costs less than PhP5,000.

Verdict

It’s one of the best I’ve used in its price point. In fact, if you think about what this TWS can offer, almost all of the premium features that other brands offer with their products are available on Buds Air Pro.
