vivo Remains a Top Smartphone Brand Throughout the Pandemic Year

Amidst the Covid-19 pandemic, reports have shown that vivo is one of the two smartphone brands that showed growth in Q1. The company became the number one handset brand in the Philippines in Q2 and this performance continued in Q3 with a 66.7% year-on-year growth.

vivo-top-brand-ph-canalys-q1The pandemic caused the global smartphone market to see a sharp decline in 2020. vivo survived this and shipped 24.8 million units globally from January to March 2020 according to the International Data Corporation (IDC) Quarterly Mobile Phone Tracker. It even became the second biggest smartphone brand in India, overtaking Samsung.

A report from the analyst firm Canalys also showed that vivo was the number one smartphone vendor in the Philippines with a 21% market share.

The company launched mid-range devices namely the V19 and V19 during the pandemic-led lockdown period. Despite the strictest period in nationwide quarantine, the brand posted an 18% year-on-year growth from April – June 2020.
