In a statement by GMA Network, Inc. Chairman and CEO Felipe L. Gozon, “As the country’s leading broadcast network, it is only fitting that we continue to improve our content and innovate our digital TV products. This is our way of expressing gratitude to our loyal Kapuso for their unceasing support. We are proud to say that GMA Now is the first mobile DTT receiver to combine traditional TV with the advantages of interactivity via the internet. This product was developed by our digital media and technology arm GMA New Media, Inc. with the Filipino viewers in mind as we adapt to their evolving needs and interests.”

Following the success of the GMA Affordabox, GMA Now sets to change the game of watching Kapuso shows wherever viewers may be. Viewers with Android smartphones can easily watch Kapuso shows by using the DTT receiver dongle on their Android smartphones. This will enable them viewers to receive clear and live digital TV broadcast of Kapuso Channels GMA, GMA News TV, heart of Asia, Hallypop, and DepEd TV. Other channels like Shop TV, ETC and Light TV are also available to be viewed using GMA Now.

GMA is also cooking plenty of new features for users of GMA Now. Groupee Chat and Interactive Promos are expected to roll out in the next updates. The former allows viewers to create groups and chat with family and friends while watching GMA programs. The latter, on the other hand, will introduce quizzes and polls to viewers for a chance to win prizes.

What’s in the box?

GMA sent us a GMA Now and here’s everything inside the box:

GMA Now 5
(L-R: Note, GMA Now DTTV dongle, Micro USB to Type C adapter, antenna, antenna/sling)

The app can easily be downloaded via Google Playstore. If you’re using a Huawei smartphone or any Android device without any access to Google Playstore, you can use other 3rd party app repositories. We don’t recommend it, but it’s the only way for you to be able to download it on your device.

Minimum requirements include the following:

  • Android device runing on Android OS Marshmallow (Android 6.0) or higher
  • Dual Core 1Ghz CPU, USB OTG.

iPhone/iPad users will have to wait. If you’re planning to buy this in the future and you’re using an iOS device, be sure to have a micro USB to lightning connector. Of course, it’ll be a different case on iPad with default type C ports.
