Qualcomm has revealed its latest premium mid-range chipset – the Qualcomm Snapdragon 780G (SM7350-AB). It is the first chipset in the class to be built with a 5nm process and an X53 5G modem. It’s a lite version of the Snapdragon 888.
The Snapdragon 780G has a Kryo 670 CPU which is said to give a “40% performance uplift”. The 768G are based on Cortex-A76 cores which should be a 40% performance increase.
The cores clock only up to 2.4GHz despite being fabricated on a leading node. It matches the big cores of the 888, although the flagship chip also has a Cortex-X1 prime core at 2.84GHz.
It has an Adreno 642 GPU which performance-wise goes between the 855 and the 865. Its drivers can be updated, supports HDR10, and its display can offer 1080p+ panels up to a 144Hz refresh rate.
The Snapdragon 780G supports LPDDR4 RAM at up to 2.1GHz frequency and up to 16GB capacity.
It has a triple Spectra 570 ISP meaning it can image stream from three cameras can be processed simultaneously. The ISP supports 10-bit color depth for photos and videos and can record in HDR10, HDR10+, and HLG. It handle a single camera up to 84MP and Zero Shutter Lag enabled or a single up to 192MP.
The 780G also features a Hexagon 770 AI engine that offers 12 TOPS of performance. This is double of what the 768G manages.
In addition to the 5G modem, the 780G supports Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.2. It offers USB 3.1 and Quick Charge 4+ as far as charging goes.
