LG has just announced today that it will be closing its mobile business unit. The company explained that doing so will enable the company to focus its resources on growing in other areas like electric vehicle components, connected devices, smart homes, robotics, artificial intelligence, to name a few.

LG has assured to provide after-sales services and repair parts for current users. In addition, the company will continue to roll out OS upgrades until Android 12. However, there will be apps and services that will no longer be supported. These are Qlens and PC Suite/LG Mirror Drive.

The company will continue to develop mobility-related technologies though with a a special mention of 6G in the press release.

The closing down of the mobile phone business is expected to be completed by July 31. Its mobile products will continue to be available until supplies last, varying from country to country.

This means we definitely won’t see the Rollable smartphone which the company teased at CES 2021. It was one of the more interesting things we saw at the online event.
