At Connect 2021, CEO Mark Zuckerberg introduced Meta, the new name of the Facebook Company. The focus of the company will be to bring the metaverse to life and help people connect, find communities, and grow businesses.
The metaverse, as Zuckerberg explains is the next platform that he claims will be more immersive.
They showcased what the experience could be like in the metaverse over the next decade, including social connection, entertainment, gaming, fitness, work, and commerce.
Additionally, new tools were announced to help build for the metaverse. Among these include the Presence Platform, which will enable new mixed reality experiences on Quest 2.
Meta did clarify that the corporate structure is not changing but financial reports will change.
Moreover, he states in his Founder’s Letter, 2021 that privacy and safety need to be built into the metaverse from day one along with open standards and interoperability.
“From now on, we will be metaverse-first, not Facebook-first. That means that over time you won’t need a Facebook account to use our other services,” said Meta CEO, Mark Zuckerberg in his Founder’s Letter, 2021.
