According to tipsters Ice Universe and Digital Chat Station, Qualcomm is said to change up their naming scheme for the flagship chipset starting with the upcoming successor of the Snapdragon 888.
Both tipsters mention that the successor will be dubbed the “Snapdragon 8 Gen 1” instead of the previously believed Snapdragon 898.
Prior to this alleged change in name scheme, Qualcomm has done a pretty good job of naming its SoCs. However, with more chipsets out in the market, it has reached the point where an overlap is bound to happen. So a change in naming convention just makes a lot of sense.
The naming scheme is expected to eventually spread to its other series further down the line as well.
