Mid-range phones have evolved so much in terms of performance and overall value. You no longer need to spend more just to experience today’s popular games at a more than satisfactory quality. In some titles, you can even get to or very close to maximum settings.
The Samsung Galaxy A52s 5G is a perfect example of such a device. With a starting price of just PhP22,990 SRP, you get a powerful mid-range chip, high refresh rate display, ample storage, stereo speakers, and a long-lasting battery. Basically, everything you’ll need for that immersive gaming experience without the exorbitant pricing of a flagship.
Performance
Samsung has fitted the Galaxy A52s 5G with the Snapdragon 778G 5G, which is technically one of the most powerful chips in Qualcomm’s mid-range lineup, offering great performance combined with excellent efficiency. It’s paired with an Adreno 642L GPU that delivers up to 40% faster graphics rendering. The SoC also boasts several Snapdragon Elite Gaming features including VRS or Variable Rate Shading, which the company claims, allows the device to preserve visual fidelity without compromising battery life.
According to this list, the Snapdragon 778G 5G is placed just above the Kirin 990 4G. Yes, the one on the Huawei Mate 30 Pro, a flagship device from 2019.
The Galaxy A52s 5G also features RAM Plus, which is basically the equivalent of Extended RAM on other devices. It has the same purpose, to convert some of the internal storage, up to 4GB to be specific, to additional RAM to improve overall performance. The only difference is that there’s no toggle for it on this phone. It’s always on.
Gaming Benchmarks
We also tested the Galaxy A52s 5G on some of today’s popular games to look at actual performance. Call of Duty Mobile, League of Legends: Wild Rift, Real Racing 3, and Genshin Impact.
Even with a very demanding title like Genshin Impact, the Galaxy A52s 5G still manages to output more than 30 fps on average, which in actual gameplay, translates to an enjoyable experience without any major issues. For the rest of the games, it’s just smooth and steady.
Just to refresh your mind, FPS or frames per second determines how choppy or smooth the movements will appear on your phone’s screen and does not only apply to gaming, but also for videos. For the former, 30 fps is about the average you should have to be able to experience generally smooth gameplay.
5G
If you have 5G in your area, the Galaxy A52s 5G will be able to deliver an even better user experience with faster uploads and downloads, lag-free gaming, streaming in high quality, and high-resolution video calling, bringing a whole level of connectivity to your fast-paced lifestyle.
Display
A few years back, every phone was stuck at 60Hz refresh rate, which technically is still fine today, especially if you’re gunning for more battery life. But games nowadays have also evolved to a point that they can take advantage of high refresh rates to deliver a significantly better gaming experience.
Games like Real Racing 3 and Final Fantasy XV Pocket Edition can take advantage of the Galaxy A52s 5G’s large 6.5-inch FHD+ display that boasts a 120Hz refresh rate for smoother and more fluid visuals, adding another level of immersion to your games. Thanks to its Super AMOLED technology, the screen also consumes less energy while producing a livelier image. The software also allows you to manually switch from the full 120Hz refresh rate to 60Hz refresh rate to extend battery life.
Since staying glued to a screen for extended periods of time can potentially harm your eyes, Samsung has also equipped the Galaxy A52s 5G with an Eye Comfort Shield feature, which basically eliminates harmful blue light that helps prevent eye strain. This is especially helpful when using your phone at night when there’s none or very little light available.
Battery , Battery Life, and Power Management
What’s the point of great performance if you’ll have to recharge twice a day? Samsung has thought of this too. That’s why the Galaxy A52s 5G is equipped with a 4,500mAh battery.
Well, the thing is capacity is just one of the variables in the equation for battery life. There are so many factors that also contribute to how many hours of uptime a phone can deliver. The display, which in this case, can even go up to 120Hz refresh rate, but can also be used at 60Hz. The efficiency of the SoC, if you’re playing via Wi-Fi, Mobile Data, or if you have Bluetooth devices connected, how many apps are running at the same time, and more.
Samsung claims that its AI Power Management technology can analyze your usage habits, and intelligently adapts to bring you more uptime, and if ever you need to plug it in, there’s 25W fast-charging, so you can quickly go back to what you’re doing.
The Samsung Galaxy A52s 5G offers tremendous value, ticking the boxes for the formula of an excellent mid-range smartphone for gaming with a gorgeous looking display, a powerful and efficient processing package, game-enhancing software features, and a battery that will surely last long hours of gameplay, coupled with various optimizations plus fast-charging. There’s not much more that you can ask for.
