MediaTek has just teased the MediaTek Dimensity 8000 at a recent event. The new chip will be a more affordable alternative to the Dimensity 9000.
The company has not revealed any details yet on the Dimensity 8000, but Digital Chat Station has reported the chip, originally leaked as the Dimensity 7000, to be built on TSMC’s 5nm node. This will offer a significant upgrade from the Dimensity 1000-series.
Moreover, the chip is reported to use an older ARMv8 design that has four Cortex-A78 and four A55 CPU cores. The older cores are rumored to be paired with the new Mali-G510 MC6 GPU. This GPU is twice as fast and is 22% more efficient than the older generations of ARM GPUs.
The Mali-G510 also supports FHD 168Hz and 2K 120Hz displays along with LPDDR5 and UFS 3.1 storage. We can expect to see new phones with the new MediaTek Dimensity 8000 coming this 2022.
Meanwhile, the company confirmed at the same event that the Dimensity 9000 will be powering the OPPO Find X4 and Redmi K50 series.
