In the past few weeks, news about incoming flagship phones from manufacturers, namely, Xiaomi, realme, OPPO, and Motorola will use the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 SoC to power them has been in circulation.
Now, the first benchmark results posted by PC Mag have surfaced and we are shown how the new processor compares to other chipsets on the same tier.
Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 CPU Benchmarks:
Chipset | GeekBench 5 Single-core | GeekBench 5-Multi-core |
---|---|---|
Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 | 1,235 | 3,873 |
Snapdragon 888 | 1,100 | 3,500 |
Apple A15 Bionic | 1,730 | 4,700 |
Apple A14 Bionic | 1,600 | 4,300 |
Apple A13 Bionic | 1,330 | 3,440 |
Google Tensor | 1,040 | 2,830 |
As seen from the table above the new Snapdragon chip shows a 10% increase in performance compared to its predecessor the Snapdragon 888. To clarify, the benchmarks were taken from a Qualcomm reference device. Additionally, the company mentioned that the new chipset is optimized for sustained performance and not burst performance that the benchmark measures.
After checking the CPU results we now turn our attention to its GPU. The GPU results were taken using the GFXBench 5 Aztec Ruins offscreen test and the chipset scored 45 frames per second (FPS).
Compared to other phones that were tested like the iPhone 13 Pro Max which scored only 13 FPS and the Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra only scoring 19 FPS, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset delivered more than double the performance.
