Xiaomi is ending 2021 with the launch of its newest flagships – Xiaomi 12 and 12 Pro. Both are powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 SoC which offers up to 30% improved graphics rendering capabilities and up to 25% better efficiency.
Xiaomi 12
Xiaomi 12 has a 6.28-inch flexible OLED display with FHD+ resolution, 120Hz refresh rate, and Gorilla Glass Victus protection, and 1,100 nits of peak brightness. Both the 12 and 12 Pro support HDR10+ and Dolby Vision. You get 8GB/12GB of LPDDR5 RAM, and 128GB/256GB of UFS 3.1 storage.
At the back, there’s a 50MP Sony IMX766 main sensor with OIS, a 13MP ultra-wide unit, and a 5MP tele-macro camera. At the front is a 32MP snapper.
The device also packs a 4,500mAh batter with support for 67W wired and 50W wireless fast-charging, as well as 10W reverse wireless charging.
Xiaomi 12 Pro
The Pro variant takes the display up a notch in size and resolution – a 6.73-inch 2nd Gen 2K screen that utilizes Samsung E5 material as well as LTPO and micro-lens technologies. It also boasts 1,500 nits of peak brightness, and 1Hz to 120Hz refresh rates. You get 8GB/12GB of LPDDR5 RAM and 128GB/256GB of UFS 3.1 storage.
For optics, the main 50MP Sony IMX707 camera has OIS and also supports pixel binning. There’s also a 50MP ultra-wide unit, and a 50MP portrait lens. Both devices offer stable and accurate focusing and tracking thanks to advanced machine learning algorithms.
Xiaomi 12 Pro houses a 4,600mAh battery with support for 120W wired, 50W wireless fast-charging, and features the Surge P1 charging IC that allows for over 100W charging on a single-cell battery.
Both devices run on the new MIUI 13, which offers 52% better fluidity, and a host of other new features. The brand mentioned that users can expect an OTA update to the new version from Q1 of 2022.
First batch of devices for upgrade include the Mi 11, Mi 11 Ultra, Mi 11i, Mi 11X Pro, Mi 11X, Xiaomi Pad 5, Redmi 10, Redmi 10 Prime, Xiaomi 11 Lite 5G NE, Xiaomi 11 Lite NE, Redmi Note 8 (2021), Xiaomi 11T Pro, Xiaomi 11T, Redmi Note 10 Pro, Redmi Note 10 Pro Max, Redmi Note 10, Mi 11 Lite 5G, Mi 11 Lite, and Redmi Note 10 JE.
Other Features
Xiaomi 12 is equipped with a 2600mm² VC soaking plate plus 10000mm² of heat-dissipating graphite, while the Xiaomi 12 Pro has a larger 2900mm² VC as well as a trio of heat dissipation graphite sheets for improved cooling. Both also feature NFC, an IR Blaster, Sound by Harman Kardon, and support for Dolby Atmos.
